5 Easy steps to Start Coaching Your Team So you’ve been in direct sales and/or network marketing for a while and you have never coached your team! You’ve been told this one thing will help your team members and your own business grow but you have no idea where to start! You’ve waited so long to start coaching that you feel bad even connecting with a downline that hasn’t ever or hardly ever heard from you! You are not alone! Starting today, you want to change that! Just do it!

Here are 5 EASY steps to start coaching your team:

Initiate Coaching

Initiate coaching and connect individually with your team via email, Facebook message, text or phone call to let them know that you are starting something new in your business that you’ve been wanting to do for a while. Let them know you want to start coaching them to help train and support them in their business. Ask them if they are interested and to let you know if  they would like to try it.

Schedule Coaching

Once they are in, set up a schedule based on when you work your business. If you’re just starting out and you have a small team, set up calls for 15 – 30 minutes with each consultant. If you have a large team with leaders, you want to set all your coaching calls to your leaders back to back in one block of time, another block of time for your new consultants, and another block of time for other consultants. Group them together. If you work your business during the day then group those available during the day then. If you have members who work during the day then schedule them at their lunch hour or have a specific evening for coaching calls with people who also have a day job.

Frequency of Coaching

When you are getting started, start by scheduling a coaching call once a month at the beginning of the month for consultants, twice a month for leaders (beginning and middle of the month) and once a week for highly motivated leaders who are building fast and want assistance.

Learn How to Coach

You will need to put sometime into teaching yourself how to coach before you start coaching. Before this whole process, schedule some time researching this subject. Your own direct sales /network marketing business is the best place to start. What tools do they have around coaching new consultants and coaching a team. Read the literature, watch the videos and get all the information you need to do this effectively.

Just Do It!

This is one of those situations where getting started and not worrying about doing things perfectly is the best way forward. You will build up your confidence in time. Sometimes, people freeze because they feel they aren’t an expert at coaching. Nobody is until you get started and start learning by doing. Your consultant will be so pleased to have someone to talk to about their business, someone who is a sounding board and who has experienced the same struggles as they have and someone who has other ideas on how to do their business. Best of all, you will be someone who they can be accountable to which in this business is crucial! Believe me, your consultant wants to be coached if they are really into building a business!
