Your goal as a direct sales leader is to inspire, motivate, train and coach your team to success! By doing this, you aren’t only helping them to grow their personal and team business but of course their success results in growth for your team business as well.

Regular communications with all members of your team keeps them feeling like they are a part of a supportive community they want to work and grow with.

Here are three things I did in my direct sales business that worked really well to increase team activity:

Facebook Group

I created a Facebook group for our team and posted regularly in this group. I made sure it was a place where people felt comfortable to post questions, get advice and receive information. I regularly posted:

  • Tips that would help my team on every aspect of their business
  • Inspiration with quotes and motivational stories
  • Information that could easily be shared on products, training and events

This group became a wonderful forum for team members to come together to discuss and brainstorm ideas as well as challenges. It was a place to receive support from others and in turn created a cohesive, helping community.

Newsletter

Email is a great and efficient way to stay in touch with people in a place you know they’re checking regularly. They might not be using Facebook regularly but you know they are checking their email. Sending a weekly email through MailChimp, AWeber or Constant Contact is easy once you invest a bit of time learning how to use the program. Once you do, you can send a weekly newsletter and even get information on who is regularly opening your emails. I found this to be a great way to know who on my team was seeking more information and who was truly engaged and wanting to grow their business. In the weekly email, I sent:

  • Statistics on team sales, monthly top 10 in sales and recruiting
  • Profiles on team members as well as recognition and celebration
  • Examples of what worked well and ideas for what could work better
  • Communication on upcoming training, events and conferences
One on one communications

Every day I connected with team members by phone or Skype:

  • For scheduled training and coaching calls with leaders, leaders to be and new recruits
  • To provide personal recognition for a special promotion or activity
  • Just to check in
  • Or to ask, “How can I help”?

All of these tasks take time but they are valuable and crucial. As a leader, these types of activities need to be scheduled into your week. They’re activities that will result in increased team activity! Never under-estimate the value of making people feel like they can come to you at any time. Your team wants to know that you’re there for them to inspire, motivate, train and coach them to do more. These are just three of the things I’ve done that worked. If increased team activity is one of your goals for your direct sales team, perhaps the one on one mentoring call for leaders is for you!
